Youth Circus Program

An intensive experience that pairs professional artists and youth performers to collaboratively create an original new show!

For 5th graders and older, this program includes high-quality training in drama, dance, aerial, and circus arts. Each Youth Circus culminates in a fully-produced show and is one of our most popular ticketed events of the year. No experience necessary to join!

Learn the essentials for putting on a show! We aim to treat every youth circus show at the same level as any professional show we produce. This pre-professional educational experience will give the cast insight into what goes into putting on a show in the professional world: professional designers, dance & circus choreographers, and directors with years of experience to guide each student's performance to their best!

Audition Form

Title: A Circus Noir (A Parody) written and directed by Ky and Austin Rambo.

Time: 1950s, but also the here and now.

Place: The police station, inside the Chief’s office, and the alley outside the police station, The NightClub, and here: at Actor’s Gym.

A note from the playwrights: This play is a parody, which means it’s also inherently a comedy! We are poking fun at mainly the style of Film Noir, but also buddy cop films, murder mysteries, and who-done-its, with a lot of pop culture references. The more committed and serious you are to the style, the funnier it will be, so in this monologue really lean into the vibe. Serious acting. Doing a dash of research before filming your monologue will best set you up for success.

Audition Prompt:
SELF TAPE INSTRUCTIONS: Please submit one video. Video should include the SLATE and 1 take of Detective Mac Henri’s MONOLOGUE (included below).

Slate: Introduce yourself with name, why you’re interested in auditioning, and if you consider yourself an actor, a circus performer, neither, or both.

Detective Mac Henri Monologue:

So there I was… walking down Nightmare Alley.

I call it that cause one time I had a nightmare about a rat stealing the last slice of tavern style… and this alley reminds me of that rat, obviously because there are a million rats back here, and then I think, “oh man, I am so hungry.”

And I walk up and down this alley all the time on account of it being behind the police station, so I am constantly thinking about that pizza rat and I get SO hungry.

It’s a nightmare.
